It's Dallas Vs Boston in NBA Finals as Mavericks Rout Minnesota in Game 5 By Teodoro Medina Reynoso PhilBoxing.com Fri, 31 May 2024  Dallas gets back to the NBA Finals again after about a decade and a half. This after the Mavericks closed out the Western Conference Finals in five games with a 124-103 rout of the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minneapolis. The Mavs could have swept Minnesota back in Dallas but the Wolves showed great resolve to extend the series by another game, ironically back in their home floor. This time no players showed greater desire to advance to the NBA Finals than Luka Doncic who will be in his first and Kyrie Irving who will be back for his fifth for a third team. Doncic in fact set the tone for the breakaway win by single-handedly outscoring the entire Minnesota team 20-19 in the very first quarter which Dallas handily dominated, 35-19. Irving joining the fray in the second quarter compounded the woes of the Wolves. Doncic and Irving combined for 44 points which was also more than the Wolves total output by halftime as the Mavs completely took over the game 69-40. The duo of Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards, heroes of the last game, tried to rally the Wolves to fight back and cut the huge lead but all they could do was bring down the margin to 24 points at the end of the third quarter, 97-73. It was all academic up to the final buzzer with the Wolves only able to cut the huge Mavs lead to what it was in the final tally, 124-103. The Mavs offense was simply overwhelming with Doncic and Irving each scoring 36 points. JP Washington and Daniel Galford also finished in double figures with 12 points and 11 points. Derrick Lively II, despite coming off injury, had 9 points. Towns and Anthony tried to match Doncic and Irving by scoring 28 points each. But no other Wolves managed to score double figures as Rudy Gobert just had 9 points, Conley 8 points and Jaden McDonnel 7 points. Dallas was last in an NBA Finals in 2011 winning its only championship through a squad featuring Dirk Nowitzki.
