LOMACHENKO DOMINATES, STOPS KAMBOSOS IN 11TH ROUND
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sun, 12 May 2024

One guy is playing checkers, and the other guy is playing chess.
That's precisely what occurred in fight between three-division world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko of Ukraine and George Kambosos Jr. of Australia. Lomachenko secured victory with an 11th-round TKO to claim the vacant IBF and IBO world lightweight titles at the RAC Arena on Sunday in Perth, Western Australia.
Lomachenko's footwork, agility, and precision proved too much for Kambosos, who seemed perplexed by Lomachenko's excellence and intelligence in the ring. Despite Kambosos displaying heart and determination, engaging with Lomachenko until the very end, the Ukrainian's finesse was reminiscent of a masterful work of art.
The CompuBox numbers revealed the tale of the bout, with Kambosos landing single-digit punches in each round. Notably, in rounds four and ten, Kambosos connected with only one punch compared to Loma's 21 and 14, respectively.
A devastating body shot from Lomachenko dropped Kambosos for the first time in the 11th round, though Kambosos managed to beat the count. However, in the ensuing action, Lomachenko unleashed a flurry of blows that sent Kambosos to the canvas once more, prompting Referee Katsuhiko Nakamura to swiftly wave off the fight.
With this victory, Lomachenko improved his record to 18-3-0, with 12 KOs, while Kambosos fell to 21-4-0, with 10 KOs.
