Santa Rosa City, Laguna---Jirah Floravie Cutiyog of City of General Trias had the biggest and the loudest words after the smoke of battle cleared in the DepEd Calabarzon 2024 Regional Athletic Association meet (RAAM) Secondary Girls Chess Tournament held last April 5-13, 2024 at the Emmanuel Christian School, City of Santa Rosa, Laguna.

Cutiyog, a Grade 9 student of Bethel Academy of Sta Clara General Trias Cavite, after leading the City of General Trias's secondary girls to a two-gold finish in blitz event, dished out a better performance in standard chess, playing through undefeated in seven rounds for another gold in individual and a silver in team events with teammate Geraldine Mae Camarines.

She defeated Samantha Patricia Ogardo (Dasmariñas City) in the first round, Erica Michelle Martinez (Quezon Province) in the second round, Hannah Jillian Luminario (Imus City) in the third round, Pearl Chesca Pabico (Cavite Province) in the fourth round, Raiza Mae Locmayaon (Calamba City) in the fifth round, defending champion Woman National Master Franchesca Largo (Santa Rosa City) in the sixth round and Woman National Master Kaye Lalaine Regidor (Santa Rosa City) in the seventh and final round.

It was such a prolific display of brilliant mind that paved the way to City of General Trias three-gold and 1 silver and the overall championship win in secondary girls chess against perennial powerhouse rivals from the host Santa Rosa City, Cabuyao City, Biñan City, Calamba City, San Pedro City, Dasmariñas City, Imus City, Cavite Province, San Pablo City, Lucena City, Quezon Province, Batangas City and Antipolo City.

“I cannot explain how happy I am," said the 15-year-old Cutiyog, who saw action in the 2023 World Youth Chess Championship held in Montesilvano, Italy last November.
Cutiyog also topped the Secondary Girls blitz event with a similar perfect 7.0 points.

Among those who are supporting her chess campaign here and abroad are Mayor Luis Ferrer IV, Vice Mayor Jonas Glyn Labuguen, Cavite Sixth Dist. Rep. Antonio Ferrer, Sports Head Rodolfo Commandante Jr. and Bethel Academy of Sta Clara General Trias Cavite.

"It was an awesome performance for Jirah Floravie Cutiyog. Perfect score, 7 of 7 score in standard and blitz chess of this year's Palaro. She's the best," said coach Ederwin Estavillo, who passionately guided the City of General Trias chessers' successful campaign.

"Let's cheer her on as she heads to compete in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa," added Estavillo, who is also the president of General Trias City Chess Club.

Against older and male counterparts, It shall be recalled that Cutiyog won the 6th IACG (Inter-Agency Chess Group) Invitational Chess Tournament held at the Robinson Place Imus in Imus City, Cavite last March 23 and the 1st Kagawad Wilson Fauni Rapid Invitational Chess Tournament at the Imus National High School Covered Court Bucandala 3, Imus City, Cavite last April 6, 2024.-Marlon Bernardino-
