DPRGCC ups its membership to 50

DAVAO CITY – There are now almost 50 members at the Don Paco Rocamora Golf and Country Club in Dahican, Mati City.

‘’[They are] mostly locals from Mati City and also from Davao as well,” said Carlos Sievert, information officer of the SECDEA Management and Development Corporation.

SECDEA is the owner of the 21-hectare golf course, which is a 9-hole but two tee mounds for front and back 9s.

The president is Evelyn S. Afdal, wife of the late Col. Samuel G. Afdal, owner, designer and builder.

“He [Afdal] is the designer and builder of this golf course,” said Sievert, who manages the facility where the golf course is located.

Amado Atilano, who formerly worked at the defunct Davao City Golf Club is the consultant.

Atilano, who is a Class A golfer, brought along 15 golf caddies from Matina.

They have their own barracks to sleep in the clubhouse. Atilano also took five pros led by Larry de Asis to teach the golfers in the driving range.

It is an 8-bay driving range attached to the coffee shop, which also has a seafood restaurant and the clubhouse.

The construction of the golf course started in 2019 and it formally opened last March 25, 2021.

There’s a 3-day tournament next month dubbed as DDGM’s Open golf tournament.

“This is going to be the first big tournament,” said Sievert.
