Tyson Fury Maps Out Five-Fight Plan and Insists He Has No Plans to Call Time On His Epic Boxing Career

When you consider just what Tyson Fury has achieved over the course of his epic boxing career, all the lows and the magnificent highs, you would be a fool to ignore when the much-loved British fighter makes bold claims as to just how much he still has in the tank, with the 35-year-old Mancunian setting out a very optimistic timeline for the rest of his professional boxing career.

His fight against Oleksandr Usyk was postponed due to a nasty cut he suffered in sparring and will now take place on the 18th of May and it’s a fight that is already generating a huge amount of interest.

Fury overcame unknown quantity Francis Ngannou in his last fight, defeating the UFC fighter via a split decision after ten bruising rounds in Riyadh, and he’ll return to Saudi Arabia to face a much sterner test against Ukrainian Usyk.

As for any longer-term plans, Fury is adamant that his amazing career in the sport is not nearly over.

“I keep hearing talk of people saying I should retire or I’m going to retire soon or whatever,” Fury said, with a dark row of stitches visible about his left eye. “I ain’t retiring – I’ve got two fights with Usyk for the undisputed, twice.”

“Then I’m going to fight AJ [Joshua] at least once, maybe twice, if there’s a rematch – if he wants one after the first battering I give him. Then I’m going to fight [Francis] Ngannou again. And that’s just the start. So there are five little fights for you to whet your appetite with. I ain’t going nowhere. Nowhere. I’m 35 years old and in the prime of my life.”

Such claims made by any other fighter might be considered hyperbole, but when Fury speaks of such a schedule, you should probably stand up and listen.

Fury comes into the Usyk fight with 34 wins and a draw, coming against Deontay Wilder in 2018, from his 35 fights. However, he was knocked down by Francis Ngannou in the third round of his last fight and was arguably fortunate to come out of that flight with the victory.

His opponent has an unblemished 21-0 record, with his last fight coming against Daniel Dubois in Poland last August.

That ninth-round knockout came after his two massive wins over Anthony Joshua, which also came after another big victory over Derek Chisora and he presents a real challenge to Fury.

Fury currently holds the WBC title while Usyk holds the IBF, WBA and WBO belts, making their fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a must-watch encounter, even more so once the identity of the winner of the Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou fight, coming this month, is known.
