IM Young to join in the 21st BCC Open 2024 in Thailand

MANILA – Filipino International Master Angelo Abundo Young is planning to join the 21st BCC (Bangkok Chess Club) Open 2024 scheduled from April 13 to 21.
The competition, which will be held in the conference center of the Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa in Phetchaburi, Thailand, features Open and Challenger divisions.
"I am looking forward to playing in Thailand and hopefully, get good results," said the 60-year-old Young in an interview on Wednesday.
During the 2019 World Senior Chess Championship in Bucharest, Romania, he finished 8th to eventual champion Grandmaster Vadim Shishkin of Ukraine in the 50+ category.
Young, an 8-time Illinois USA Champion, is also set to compete in the 2024 World Senior Chess Championship in Bucharest, Romania later this year.
Young, who also serves as head coach of the Emilio Aguinaldo College chess team, topped the JHC Chess Club Rapid Open Chess Tournament at the San Miguel Elementary School in Tarlac City last January 21 and the IIEE IECEP PTC World Engineering Blitz Open Chess Tournament at the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines headquarters in Monte de Piedad Street, Cubao, Quezon City last January January 26.-Marlon Bernardino-
