Cuarto faces dangerous Iwata on Jan. 20 in Japan
By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Mon, 15 Jan 2024

FORMER IBF World minimumweight champion Rene Mark “Mighty Mouse” Cuarto from Zamboanga del Norte will face dangerous Shokichi Iwata of Japan on January 20 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
The 27-year-old Cuarto was even training during Christmas Day at the MP Pacquiao Davao Gym in Toril.
“Actually, I'm sparring heavier fighters so I can get used to opponents bigger than me,” said Cuarto (21-4-2, 12KOs).
Cuarto only had one fight last year on April 16 against Japanese Ginjiro Shigeoka for the IBF Interim World minimum weight at Yoyogi Gym in Japan where he lost by 9th round knockout.
Cuarto, however, is now back on track and believes he will win against Iwata.
“From my point of view, there is a bigger chance for me to win this fight,” said Cuarto, who is still at 115 pounds.
Cuarto will depart on January 17 together with three other Filipino boxers Roldan “The Cobra” Aldea, Joseph Ambo and Jhey Rhey Waminal.
Aldea (18-9-2, 10KOs) will collide with Masajiro Suzuki (9-1-1, 6KOs) for the vacant OPBF lightweight title.
Ambo (13-3-1, 8KOs) faces undefeated Kenji Fujita (5-0-0, 3KOs) for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific featherweight title.
Waminal (16-9-1, 9KOs) will fight against unbeaten Mikito Nakano (8-0-0, 7KOs).
The boxing promotion is promoted by Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions.
