SPORTS FACTS AND FIGURES 4: MANNY PACQUIAO VS. BUAKAW BANCHAMEK EXHIBITION FIGHT ON APRIL 20 By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Thu, 04 Jan 2024 Manny Pacquiao is slated to fight Muay Thai legend Buakaw Banchamek in an exhibition fight on April 20. More than a year since he last fought on the ring on December 11, 2022 when he engaged with Korean martial artist You Tuber DK Yoo in an exhibition in South Korea, Pacquiao will again be setting foot on the ring in a bout called the "Match of the Legends" at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. * * * The fight will be in a catchweight using boxing rules of six rounds of three minutes time with two minute breaks in between. At stake is a WBC Legend Belt by the World Boxing Council especially made for the fight. * * * Buakaw, more popularly known with his ring name Buakaw Por Pramuk, was a legend in the sport of Muay Thai with a very impressive record of 241 wins, 24 losses and 14 draws. He has just fought a bare-knuckle Muay Thai fight against Saenchai last November. * * * Sombat Banchamek a.k.a. Buakaw Banchamek is a professional Muay Thai fighter and kickboxer from Thailand, who formerly fought out of Por. Pramuk Gym, in Bangkok, Thailand, that's why his ring name is Buakaw Por. Pramuk. * * * Buakaw was known for his vicious fighting style, and is a former two-time Omnoi Stadium champion, Lumpinee Stadium Toyota Marathon champion, former #1-ranked fighter in Lumpinee Stadium, Thailand Featherweight champion, two-time K-1 World MAX champion and 2011 & 2012 Thai Fight tournament champion. He is considered as one of the greatest Muay Thai fighters of all time. * * * Aside from his Muay Thai career, Buakaw also played professional football for a while as a forward in the Regional League Division 2 for RBAC F.C. * * * Aside from the exhibition match, Pacquiao also hinted at a possible fight against nemesis Floyd Mayweather during an appearance in an MMA event at the Saitama Super Arena on New Year’s Eve. * * * Jordan Clarkson finally notched the first triple-double of his National Basketball Association career on Monday night, more than 15 years after a Utah Jazz player last registered a triple-double. The 31-year-old Gilas Pilipinas star fired 20 points together with 11 assists and 10 rebounds and helped the Jazz win over the Dallas Mavericks with a 127-90 victory * * * In the first quarter of the game between the LA Clippers and Miami Heat on Monday, All-Star guard Russell Westbrook made NBA history by moving to 25th place in the NBA all-time scoring list. Westbrook joins LeBron James and Oscar Robertson as the only three players in NBA history who emerged top-25 in points and top-10 in assists in the all-time list. * * * NBA record of Double-triple-double (20/20/20s) (20+ in any 3 stats) Wilt Chamberlain had 22 points, 25 rebounds, and 21 assists on February 4, 1968. Russell Westbrook had 20 points, 20 rebounds, and 21 assists on April 2, 2019. * * * Sports History: January 4, 1935. Floyd Patterson was born.
