Núñez Drops, Decisions Salcido in Florida By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Thu, 05 Oct 2023 In an entertaining battle filled with knock downs, unbeaten lightweight José “El Magnífico” Núñez (16-0-2, 7 KO’s) of Panama twice dropped and out-boxed hard-swinging Mexican warrior Omar “Súper” Salcido (17-1, 12 KO’s) of Hermosillo, Sonora, en route to a wide unanimous decision win tonight, October 4, at the Whitesands Events Center in Plant City, Florida, live on PROBOX TV. Faster and more skilled, the 24 yea-old Núñez circled and out-smarted Salcido, constantly landing on him fast combinations from the medium distance, beating to the punch the taller, then-undefeated Mexican fighter. With a fast, well placed, right-left combination in the third chapter, Nuñez countered the coming-in Salcido, sending him down for the fight’s first knock down. Then again in round 7, Núñez made good use of his speed and decent power to rock down Salcido for another loss of the vertical. But yet, seconds later, Salcido returned the favor throwing a quick left hook that harshly dropped Núñez on his ass near the end of the 7th. Luckily for the Panama boxer, that visit to the canvas unfolded near the end on the chapter, seemingly giving him enough time to regroup to come back out-boxing and out-smarting the tough 23-year-old Mexican lightweight warrior. At the end, wide tallies were 95-90 and 98-89 and 98-97 all in favor of the southpaw Nuñez, who presses forward his boxing career. José “El Magnífico” Núñez is trained by Panama coaches Rigoberto Garibaldi and Juan Mosquera; handled by New York manager Enrique McIntyre of Los Guerreros Boxing.
