Jerwin Ancajas digs deep, technically stops Wilner Soto within five rounds

PhilBoxing.com

Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas is once again in the win column, unleashing body blows that crumpled Colombian Wilner Soto within five rounds at The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Ancajas closed the competitive bout in the last 30 seconds of the fifth and final round with a left hook to the body that stunned Soto followed by three successive right upper cuts on the bread basket at the final 20-second mark.

A deflated Soto sank to one knee which prompted referee Charlie Fitch to stop the contest.

In his 10 years in boxing, the 32-year-old Soto of Canalete, Colombia suffered his seventh straight loss, six of them within the distance.

Jerwin Ancajas improves to 34 W, 3 L, 2 D, 24 KO while Wilner Soto drops to 22 W, 13 L, 12 KO.

The victory is a welcome relief for the Panabo, Cotabato del Norte fighter, and for Filipinos as well, who was coming off back-to-back losses to Fernando “Pumita” Martinez—who took his IBF super-flyweight crown which he held for 6 years.

“Jerwinner, once again,” texted Robert “Bob” Lyons of the Manny Pacquiao Foundation.

“This is the fight that builds the bridge towards a shot at the championship. We are excited to see what Sir Sean Gibbons has in store for us,” exclaimed long-time Team Ancajas manager-trainer Joven Jimenez.

Showtime streamed Ancajas’ victory over Soto on its YouTube channel, and the super bantamweight bout was on the undercard card of a stacked PBC promotion topped by Carlos Adames vs Julian Williams streamed live on Showtime.

As of this writing, Argentina’s Martinez (15-0, 8 KO) is busy atop the ring defending his IBF super-flyweight crown against Jade “Hurricane” Bornea (18-0, 12 KO).
