Ginjiro Shigeoka Stops Rene Mark Cuarto in 9, Claims IBF 105 Interim Belt (VIDEO CLIP) By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Sun, 16 Apr 2023 With a vicious body attack, hard-hitting Japanese Ginjiro Shigeoka (9-0, 7 KO's) tormented, dropped and stopped in nine rounds brave Pinoy warrior Rene Mark Cuarto (21-4-2, 12 KO's) to conquer the vacant IBF Interim Minimumweight Title today, Sunday April 16, in Tokyo, Japan. During the rough 9th round, a brutal left straight thrown with power by the southpaw Ginjiro landed devastatingly on Cuarto's mid-section, rocking the Zamboanga fighter to the blue canvas of Yoyogi Gym. Courageously, Cuarto made it up on his feet, just to be brutally hammered again with another similar impact, dropping the brave Pinoy again in the same spot. One more time, Cuarto regain his vertical. However, the damage was too visible, too obvious, prompting veteran Japanese third man Katsuhiko Nakamura to rightfully wave the battering off at the 2:55 minute mark in chapter 9. With the devastating win, the 23-year-old Ginjiro Shigeoka - a protege of successful young promoter, former 3-division champ Koki Kameda - fulfills his dream of becoming world titlist. His first attempt 3 months ago against Mexican Daniel Valladares ended up in a disappointing non-contest. This time no. Indeed, Ginjiro's superiority was evident from the first bell, dominating with skill, power speed the former champ from the MP Boxing Stable. However, Cuarto's defeat tonight in Tokyo is not the end of the world for the friendly and brave 28-year-old "Mighty Mouse." He has proven to fans that he is a true warrior of heart, determination and strength. Tonight, he just happened to be defeated by a better fighter, but he can come back stronger and faster. Notably, Cuarto never quit. It was the referee who was the one to rightfully and correctly stopped the contest. What is important is that Cuarto is fine and healthy, looking forward to flying back to his family and loved-ones in Pinoyland. He flies tomorrow Monday, April 17. God bless Rene Mark. His enormous effort is so much valued and appreciated. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Carlos Costa. |
