SUICO, LAURENTE SEE ACTION IN PACQUIAO-DIAZ CARD By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 21 May 2008 Randy Suico. OPBF lightweight champ Randy "Komong Bato" Suico and PABA lightweight titlist Dennis Laurente have been included in the blockbuster "Lethal Combination" card on June 28 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The event topbills Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao going up to challenge WBC lightweight king David Diaz in the 12-round main event. Cebu boxing man Rex 'Wakee' Salud, who collaborated with Pacquiao to have the two fighters inserted in the card, said in an interview yesterday that the two Filipino fighters have yet to secure a US visa, and Suico also needs to renew his passport. "We know that getting a passport alone takes months, so we will see. They also need to apply for an American visa. Everything is being worked out," said Salud. Liza Elorde, whose husband Johnny manages Laurente, also confirmed that their ward is indeed being included in the card, although everything hinges if their boxer gets his American visa just in time for the event. No opponent has been finalized for both Suico and Laurente, although there are indications they will be facing Latino fighters on the card. Another Filipino, Bernabe Concepcion, is also lined up to see action in the card although his manager Aljoe Jaro said Top Rank has yet to finalize the deal. The dynamite-fisted Suico (28-3, 24 KO's) last saw action with a third-round knockout over Songkom Jockeygym on April 21 with Pacquiao watching on ringside. Trainer Juanito Ablaca has indicated he has lined up topnotch sparmates for Suico going into the fight, including Jimrex Jaca, JR Sollano and Joel De la Cruz. The battle-tested Laurente (28-3-5, 14 KO's) has not seen action since November last year when he defended his title with a seventh-round technical knockout over Moses Seran.
