Cuarto vs Shigeoka for IBF 105 Interim Strap in Tokyo on April 16 By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Tue, 07 Mar 2023 More-experienced Filipino former champ "Mighty Mouse" Rene Mark Cuarto (21-3-2, 12 KO's) of Ponot, Zamboanga del Norte, dives into one of the most important fights of his career when he battles skilled, hard-hitting Kumamoto warrior Ginjiro Shigeoka 重岡銀次朗 (8-0, 6 KO's) for the vacant IBF Interim Minimumweight title on Saturday, April 16, in Tokyo, Japan, live on Abema TV. Shigeoka and Cuarto will rumble for the vacant "interim" strap because the reigning IBF minimumweight "regular" world champion Mexican Daniel "Cejitas" Valladares (26-3-1, 15 KO's) has filed for a medical exception. The Monterrey-native suffered injuries in his rough non-contest clash against Ginjiro last January, for which he is at the moment unable to give the Japanese rising star a rematch. And then, what will happen when Ginjiro and Rene Mark trade hard blows on April 16? Will the promising 23 year-old Ginjiro Shigeoka be too fast and furious for the Zamboangueño former titlist? Or will the "Mighty Mouse" shine brilliantly in Tokyo with power and slick moves to become an IBF minimumweight titlist again? In the same show, promoted by Kameda Promotions, Ginjiro's older brother, Yudai Shigeoka 重岡優大 (6-0, 4 KO's), will challenge Thailand's talented star Panya Pradabsri (39-1, 23 KO's) for the WBC Minimumweight World Title. Will the two Shigeoka brothers emerge victorious, claiming minimumweight world title belts in the same night? Or will they both go back home empty-handed with broken hearts? On April 16, we'll find out. May the Best Men Win. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Carlos Costa. |
