NBA Daily: Warriors Rain Threes to Rout Shorthanded Spurs 132-95

PhilBoxing.com

San Francisco, California – Jordan Poole exploded for 36 points on 13-for-20 field goal shooting, including 5-for-10 from deep, to lead five other Warriors in double figures in routing the shorthanded San Antonio Spurs 132-95, Monday night (Tuesday morning, Philippine time) at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.

The Spurs actually outrebounded the Warriors 53-40 and had 17 more offensive boards as a team. They also had more field goal attempts at 100 to the Warriors’ 88, but the Spurs only connected 36 of those, missing on wide open shots, while the Warriors were shooting lights out, connecting on 47 of their 88 field goal attempts for a whopping 53.4 percent accuracy.

The Warriors also finished with 23 made threes, while the Spurs could only muster 10 of their own. Klay Thompson was rested on the second night of a back-to-back and Poole took his place in the starting line-up, which was perfect timing for his bubble head night.

Stephen Curry only played 27 minutes and finished with 16 markers, 5 boards, 5 dimes, 1 steal, and made 3 three-pointers.

Starting point guard Tre Jones didn’t play for San Antonio due to a stomach illness. Surprisingly, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich assigned primary point guard chores to rookie power forward Jeremy Sochan. His ball-handling was impressive for a big man, most especially for a 19-year-old rookie. His outside shooting, however, left a lot to be desired, as the Warriors defense often slacked on him and allowed Golden State head coach Steve Kerr’s wards to clog the shaded lane, forcing multiple turnovers. Sochan shot 5-for-13, including 0-for-3 from behind the arc, and had zero assists.

Jonathan Kuminga and Anthony Lamb were very efficient off-the-bench and finished with 15 and 17, respectively for the Warriors, who improved to 6 wins and 8 losses.

Up next for the Warriors are the Suns in Phoenix on Wednesday night (Thursday morning, Philippine time).

Meanwhile, the Spurs, who dropped to a similar 6-8 win-loss card, will travel to Portland to face the Trail Blazers on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning, Philippine time).

Spurs 95 – Johnson 15, Sochan 12, Bates-Diop 12, Richardson 10, Roby 9, McDermott 7, Poeltl 6, Vassell 6, Dieng 6, Bassey 6, Hall 6
