Slip sliding away: Pelicans outgun Warriors in NOLA, 114-105

PhilBoxing.com

(San Leandro, California)
Was the crowd singing ‘Blue Bayou’ at the Smoothie King Centre tonight?

I think not, as the host Pelicans ended their three-game skid at the expense of the depleted Warriors.

New Orleans extended the visiting and reigning NBA champions’ malaise to 5 straight losses---7 defeats total and 0-6 on the road this year.

All the young guns on both sides showed grit and determination.
For four quarters, both squads were not more than 8 points apart.
At the buzzer, it was the Pels who prevailed by 9 points, 114-105, in a tight match.

The Pelican trio of Ingram, McCollum and Nance, Jr. collectively outshone their rising star Zion Williamson (PF) who scored 26 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.

Brandon Ingram (SF) scored 26 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
CJ McCollum (SG) poured in 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
Larry Nance, Jr. (PF) turned in 20 points and 8 rebounds.
As a team, the Pels shot 50.6% FG and 41.4% 3-PT.

The Warriors starting five looked almost like the squad that won this year’s crown.

In tonight’s front line was rising Warriors star Jordan Poole (SG) and veteran Kevon Looney (C) with promising players Moses Moody (SG), Jonathan Kuminga (PF)and Anthony Lamb (F).

Out of the line-up were Stephen Curry (PG), Draymond Green (PF), Andrew Wiggins (SF) and Klay Thompson (SG) as announced by Coach Steve Kerr before tonight’s game, perhaps to save some gas for their upcoming series at home.

Poole led the Warriors with 20 points and 9 assists.

Future Warriors key players Kuminga, Lamb, and Moody scored 18,16, and 14, respectively.

Off the bench, T. Jerome (SG) contributed a whopping 18 points.
The depleted Warriors team was in the fight all night long but came up short capping a fruitless road trip, losing their last 5 straight games.

As a team, the Warriors shot 49.3% FG and 37.5% 3-PT.

Upcoming:

NOLA (4-3): Pelicans square off against the high-flying Atlanta Hawks tomorrow November 5, 2022.

Golden State (3-7): The Warriors regroup for battle against Sacramento Kings on November 7th and then the red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers on November 11th.
