FM Alekhine Fabiosa Nouri wins in Round 4 of the World Junior Chess Championship in Sardinia, Italy

SARDINIA, ITALY--FIDE Master Alekhine Fabiosa Nouri of the Philippines defeated Fayzan Momin of Pakistan in the fourth round of the World Junior Chess Championship 2022 Friday at the Club Esse Palmasera Resort in Cala Gonone in Sardinia, Italy here.

The 16-year-old Nouri, a Grade 10 student of La Concepcion College, City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan showed his mastery in the Sicilian Dragon set up to beat Momin in 31 pushes using the black pieces.

After 4 rounds, the 79th seeded Nouri (Elo 2251) pooled 2.0 points on 1 win, 2 draws and 1 loss in the Open Under 20 division.

"I’m so happy I won my match today," said Nouri, whose European chess campaign is being supported by Senator Mark Villar, Bounty Agro Ventures, Inc. (BAVI) President & General Manager Ronald Daniel Ricaforte Mascariñas, Buena Viel Construction and Project Management top honcho Engr. Jojo Buenaventura, City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan mayor Arthur Robes, NCFP Vice President for Visayas Rep. Neri Javier Colmenares and NCFP Vice President for Mindanao Sen. Manny Pacquiao.

Nouri opened his campaign with a big bang by halving the points with 19th seed Grandmaster (GM) Felix Blohberger (Elo 2493) of Austria last Wednesday.

However, Nouri was beaten by 23rd seed International Master Gorshtein (Elo 2471) of Israel in the second round Thursday afternoon session but bounced back after ceasefire with Yegor Stolyarsky (Elo 1987) of Israel in the third round evening session.

Woman National Master Mhage Gerriahlou F. Sebastian (Elo 1865) was still fighting it out as of presstime opposite Chloe Badenhorst (Elo 1687) of Republic of South Africa in the Girls Under 20 division.
