PhilBoxing.com

In this limited 30-part series, we shall be discussing each team’s latest developments, current roster, and future prospects in the upcoming 2022-2023 NBA season. For every team, we will examine bit-by-bit the important aspects that may shape its progress and provide a rough projection of how it will fare vis-à-vis its previous year’s performance and versus the rest of the league.

Headliners:

With the 4th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Rookie Draft, the Sacramento Kings selected sweet-shooting and highly polished forward Keegan Murray out of Iowa. Murray’s offensive game is relatively advanced for a 22-year-old. At 6’8” with good size, mobility, and shooting ability, he is the epitome of a modern big man. He will form a very interesting frontcourt with Domantas Sabonis, who averaged a double-double of 18.9 points and 12.1 rebounds, to go along with 5.2 assists per game last season.

Though the Kings frontcourt may be offensively promising, it is without a doubt spit-fire point guard De’Aaron Fox who will dictate the tempo of the Kings offense. In his return to tip-top shape, Fox averaged 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.6 assists last season on a nightly basis. Fox’s offensive output is expected to improve with the arrival of Murray, who can spread the floor and allow the former to operate on a much less-crowded lane.

Richaun Holmes will add size to a rather undersized frontcourt. He had a respectable production of 10.4 markers and 7.0 boards per outing in the season prior, starting on 37 games for the Kings. He is however expected to have a reduced role as a back-up big man, alongside Trey Lyles, Alex Len, and Chimezie Metu.

Meanwhile, veterans Harrison Barnes, Malik Monk, and Kent Basemore should provide a steady presence at the wings for the Kings, who could vastly improve on the win-loss column and perhaps compete for a playoff spot if they stay relatively healthy throughout the season.
