MELLIGEN TKO'S FOE IN AUSTRALIA!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sat, 03 May 2008
ALA Boy Mark Jason Melligen, the reigning Philippine junior welterweight champion, stopped Payakchai Sithparadorn in the first round last night at the Knox Netball Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
The 22-year-old Melligen proved too much for Sithparadorn, stopping the latter at the 2:47 mark of the opening round.
With the win, Melligen is now looking forward to yet another fight in Australia in July, or a possible RP title defense also in July in Bacolod City.
"He is supposed to fight one more time in Australia but if they can't find an opponent for him then he comes home. He will defend his title July 26 in Bacolod," said the well-loved Cebu sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer, whose son Michael manages Melligen.
Another Filipino, Glen Masicampo, was not as lucky last night afer he was stopped in the third round by Oyewale Omotoso.
Masicampo, however, was credited by promoter Murray Thomson for putting up a brave effort.
