WBO-105 World Title on the Line tonight in Japan: Méndez vs Taniguchi Ready to Rumble

Puerto Rican WBO-105 World Champion Wilfredo “Bimbito” Méndez (16-1, 6 KO’s), will be risking is coveted belt against Japanese mandatory challenger Masataka Taniguchi 谷口将隆 (14-3, 9 KO’s) tonight Tuesday , Dec 14, at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
The fight between these two tough southpaws is promoted by Phoenix Promotions, live on PXB and ESPN.
Mendez will make his 3rd title defense, the second in a row outside of his native “Island of Enchantment,” Puerto Rico.
During the weigh-in, Wilfredo Méndez registered 105 pounds; and the 27-year-old Masataka Taniguchi the same, 105 lbs for their exciting rumble tonight.
“I feel extremely strong and motivated to give my all and my total very best,” said the 25-year old Méndez from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico.
“I have matured a lot as a fighter and whatever type of fight my opponent brings up, I will figure it out. May the best man win.”
The bearded Puerto Rican WBO-105 world champion ended up saying:
“My preparation leading up to this fight was great. Thanks to the organizers for their attention and here in Japan. They have treated us super well. There are no excuses.”
