Concio tops Soria chess By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Wed, 07 Jul 2021 MANILA, PHilippines---International Master Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmarinas City, Cavite turned back Ryan Concepcion in the final round on Sunday, July 4, 2021 to win the Marguel Soria Jr. Six Years old Birthday Bullet Online Chess Celebration at lichess.org. The victory pushed Concio’s tally to 99 points good for the champion’s prize worth P400 in the one-day event, using the 1 minute plus 1 second time control format, organized by Bayanihan Chess Club. Concio, one of the top players of Dasmarinas Chess Academy put up by Cong. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. and national coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas, will also be representing the Philippines in the FIDE World Cup 2021 set from July 10 to August 6, 2021 in Sochi, Russia. Kevin Arquero of Pasay City came in second with 93 points followed by third placer Fide Master David Elorta of Manila who totes 89 points. Rounding up to the top 10 are fourth National Master Mark Jay Bacojo of Dasmarinas City, Cavite (75 pts.), fifth National Master Elwin Retanal of Cebu (74 pts.), sixth Fide Master Roel Abelgas of Dasmarinas City, Cavite (72 pts.), seventh National Master Merben Roque of Cebu (68 pts.), eight Grandmaster Darwin Laylo of Dasmarinas City, Cavite (67 pts.), ninth Arena Grandmaster Henry Roger Lopez of Panabo City of Davao del Norte(66 pts.) and tenth Fide Master Sander Severino of Silay City, Negros Occidental (65 pts.).-Marlon Bernardino- Click here to view a list of other articles written by Marlon Bernardino.  |
