Former Olympian Charly Suarez battered Pablito Canada Jr compelling him to concede in the main event of the fight card promoted by VSP Boxing at the Urdaneta Cultural Sports Complex in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan on Saturday, May 1.

Suarez improved his record to remain unblemished at 6-0 with 5 knockouts, as Canada's corner threw in the towel in the fourth round of their scheduled six-round super featherweight match.

* * *

The original opponent for Suarez was Lorence Rosas in a scheduled 10-round bout in the main event of “A Warrior’s Call: Fight for Supremacy” on April 24 at the Biñan Football Stadium in Biñan City.

* * *

But it was postponed on May 1 with the opponent replaced by Canada Jr. Canada had a difficult time right from the start as he strived to contend with Suarez's barrage of blows to the head and body.

* * *

In the third round a flurry of booming punches sent Canada sagging on his knees as he tried to cling to Suarez to keep his body from falling on the floor.

* * *

Suarez sustained his battering offense in the fourth round and a vicious combination caused Canada to give up 16 seconds left in the canto. Canada's career record plunged to 7-19-4, 1 KO.

* * *

In the undercard bouts, Richard Pumicpic (22-11-2, 7 KOs) knocked out Landy Cris Leon (13-22-5, 6 KOs) in the sixth round.

* * *

Arnel Baconaje (12-4, 10 KOs) scored a second-round technical knockout victory over Jay Lloyd Quidlat (4-2, 2 KOs).

* * *

Franco Serafica (5-1, 3 KOs) annihilated Mark Anthony Rotilles (2-7, 1 KO) who quit in his stool for a technical knockout win between the third and fourth rounds.

* * *

Jover Amistoso (2-0) won by unanimous decision against the newcomer Noli James Maquilan (0-1) as the only non-knockout bout in the undercard.

The 32-year-old Suarez of Sawata, Davao del Norte also saw action on February 13 winning a 10-round unanimous decision, 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91, over Jon Jon Estrada at the Mega Mart Burgos Poblacion Norte, Paniqui, Tarlac.

Suarez gave Ukraine's Vasyl Lomachenko a tough fight in the World Series of Boxing. He got up from the canvas after a knockdown in the third round and survived up to the final fifth round bell. Suarez lost by unanimous decision, 50-44 on all three judges' scorecards but won the accolade from the fans.

Charly Suarez's mission is to break into the world's top 10 as quickly as possible, and he shapes as potentially one of, if not the, best prospect in Philippines boxing, according to worldboxingnews.net. He wants to follow the achievements of Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire and Donnie Nietes.

VSP Boxing has promoted three highly successful "Victory 8" events in November 2018, March and October 2019. "Victory 8" is rapidly emerging as the leading brand in Sports Entertainment in Vietnam.

* * *

Victory 8 bouts generally involve shorter durations, usually 4 rounds. They intentionally shorten the rounds to maintain the entertainment factor, with the reality that tired and slow fights don’t interest the fans.

* * *

They are also concerned that more injuries occur in fatigued athletes. The shorter bouts also allow exposure for more boxers, and their aim is to make every boxing match entertaining.
