Ventura, Faeldonia rule 2021 National Youth & Schools Online Chess Championship

Gio Troy Ventura halved the point with Juncin Estrella in a duel of fancied bets in the seventh round to capture the Boys Under 15 crown while Jasper Faeldonia, Lovely Ann Geraldino and Ma. Elayza Villa ruled their respective divisions in the 2021 National Youth & Schools Online Chess Championships - Southern Luzon Leg ages 17 years old and below (Boys & Girls) Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Tornelo platform.

Ventura, a Grade 8 student of Dasmarinas Integrated High School whose stint was being supported by Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. and national coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas, finished 6 points on account of five wins and two draws to emerge solo champion in this 10 minutes plus 5 seconds increment time control format, backed up by National Chess Federation of the Philippines Chairman/President Senior Deputy Speaker Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. and the Philippine Sports Commission in close cooperation with NCFP Chief Operating Officer GM Jayson Gonzales and assisted by NCFP Asst. Exec. Director Southern Luzon AGM Dr. Alfredo "Fred" Paez, NCFP Asst. Exec. Director Northern & Central Luzon IA Reden Cruz, WFM Michelle Yaon and NA Susan Grace Neri.

"I am very, very happy and honored to get this award again. It is always refreshing and exciting to win something," said the 2018 Thailand Pattaya Youth Under-12 Champion Ventura, who is celebrating his 15th birthday on Thursday, April 8, 2021.
Despite the draw, Estrella took second place with a higher tie break points against fellow 5.5 pointers and third placer Ariel Santander.

4th to 8th places with 5 points each are Regil Kent Rosell Pahamtang (fourth), Wayne Ruiz (fifth), Gladimir Chester Romero (sixth), Michael Jan Stephen Inigo (seventh) and Cedric Kahlel Abris (eight).

Faeldonia, on the other hand, went home the Under-17 Boys title after superior tie break in the group of 5 pointers that includes Oscar Joseph Cantela (2nd), Jeremy Marticio (3rd), Jerish John Velarde (4th) and Karlycris Clarito Jr. (5th).
In the womens play, Geraldino defeated erstwhile co-leader Ruelle Canino to topped the Under-15 Girls category.
Second placer Canino remains at 5 points, the same output of 3rd placer Jersey Marticio and 4th placer Francesca Largo.
Villa, meantime split the point with Lexie Grace Hernandez in the final canto to won the Under-17 Girls division. Villa and Hernandez notch 5.5 points apiece, however the former got the title with a better tie break points. Rohanisah Buto and Checy Telesforo finished third and fourth with 5 points each.-Marlon Bernardino-
