GGG DROPS SZEREMETA FOUR TIMES EN ROUTE TO 7TH ROUND STOPPAGE

PhilBoxing.com

Gennadiy 'Triple G' Golovkin flashed his old deadly form by administering an old-fashioned beatdown on Kamil Szeremeta sending the Polish to the canvas four times en route to 7th round stoppage victory to retain his IBF and IBO titles at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida Friday night (Saturday in Manila).

Golovkin threw every punch in the book at Szeremeta who went down in the first round from a left hook; went down in the second round again from a right to the ear; in the fourth round from another left to the face that bloodied Szeremeta's nose and finally in the seveth from a double jab. Szeremeta's corner finally had seen enough and told referee Telis Assimenios that their fighter will not be coming in for the 8th round.

Szeremeta, who came into the fight undefeated with 21 victories, displayed heart and toughness by surviving Golovkin's terrible punishment where others fold up early.

Golovkin was so dominant he landed almost half of his punches (228 from 554 thrown) at Szeremeta who conneted only 59 punches from 327 that he threw at Golovkin.

With the victory, Golovkin, 38, who had a 14 months layoff, established a new record by defending his middleweight titles for the 21st time, shattering the earlier record of Bernard Hopkins who had 20.

GGG has now upped his record to 41-1-1 with 36 KOs while Szeremeta absorbed his first defeat and went down 21-1-0, 5KOs.

Golovkin, after the fight, said he looks forward to fighting Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez for the third time if Alvarez wins his difficult fight tomorrow against Callum Smith for the WBC/WBA super middleweight titles. Golovkin's blot in his clean record was due to a loss and a draw against Alvarez.
