FARENAS IN PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ CARD
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 06 Mar 2008

One more Filipino fighter has just been included in the mammoth March 15 card featuring superstars Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Philippine no. 1 featherweight Michael Farenas, a protege of WBO bantam champ Gerry Penalosa and his Japanese partner Kosuke Washio, has been added to the highly-anticipated event, although the name of his opponent has yet to be finalized. A Mexican will most likely test the mettle of the Gubat, Sorsogon fighter.
Rex "Wakee" Salud, a business associate of the Pacman, revealed in an interview that Farenas has been "promoted" as he was originally scheduled to fight on March 13 underneath the Bobby Pacquiao-Urbano Antillon showdown also in Las Vegas.
"Now Farenas will have to fight in the Pacquiao-Marquez show, which is much bigger," said Salud, who will co-promote an April 26 card in Cebu with Pacquiao featuring Randy Suico and Rodel Mayol against separate opponents.
Set to replace Farenas in the March 13 Bobby Pacquiao card is another Filipino fighter, RP super-featherweight champ Aaron Melgarejo.
Melgarejo is set to depart on March 8 for Los Angeles, said Salud, accompanied by trainer Dino Olivetti and manager Diego Famador.
Aside from Farenas, those already set to see action in the March 15 "Unfinished Business" card are Filipinos Diosdado Gabi and Ernel Fontanilla, a protege of Pacquiao's Filipino trainer Buboy "Roach" Fernandez.
Gabi takes on undefeated Mexican Abner Mares for the latter's WBO NABO bantamweight title, while Fontanilla sees action in a 6-round bout.
