TAMPOS DECISIONS RAPADA IN NORKIS BOXING!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sun, 02 Mar 2008
MANDAUE CITY--Hours before Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez did their explosive encounter, a fistic scorcher took place at the city plaza here when Marvin Tampos figured in an all-out brawl with Eric Rapada in the main event of the Norkis Boxing Showdown sponsored by sportsman Luigi Quisumbing and Auto Solutions Inc, distributor of the popular Sunriser Motorcyles.
The onrushing Tampus of Rex 'Wakee' Salud Stable, shorter but stronger, found Rapada, an excellent footworker with superb conditioning, a tough nut to crack as the latter bucked two head cuts to make the fight a competitive one that exceeded everybody's expectations.
Rapada was cut by accidental headbutts in rounds six and seven, but this did not deter Tampus to work his way into a close unanimous decision via scores of 95-93(twice) and 96-92.
RWS Stable's Darryl Pucdol, a youngster with a lot of promise, bucked a first-round flash knockdown to demolish John Clifford Ranan via heavy body bombardments in the third round for a fine knockout win at the 1:10 mark of the round.
John Mark Ranan surprised everybody with his tremendous aggressiveness in bringing the fight to former amateur standout Jayson Siaton, but settled for a close unanimous draw via 57-57 scores from the three judges.
Jayson Canoy of the Omega Stable showed tremendous power and heart in rallying to beat RWS Stable's Neptalie Mamerto with a fourth-round technical knockout win.
