NBA Daily: Gilgeous-Alexander Posts Career Triple-Double to Propel Thunder Past Timberwolves

PhilBoxing.com

Boracay Island, Philippines – Sophomore guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander showed why his current team specifically asked for him as an integral piece of the blockbuster deal that sent superstar wingman Paul George to the LA Clippers. He had 20 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists to help the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 117-104 on Monday night (Tuesday morning, Philippine time) at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In recording his first career triple-double, he became the youngest player in league history to record at least 20 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists in a game.

He also didn’t lack for help, as five of his teammates scored in double figures, led by Danilo Gallinari’s game high 30 points on an 8-for-12 field goal shooting, including 3-for-4 from deep and 11-for-12 from the charity stripe.

With the victory, Oklahoma City improved to 23 wins and 17 losses for 7th place in the Western Conference team standings.

Rookie big man Naz Reid led Minnesota with 20 markers, including 4 treys off the bench. The Timberwolves, who were still without top player Karl-Anthony Towns, dropped to a 15-24 win-loss card.

How they scored:

Thunder 117 – Gallinari 30, Gilgeous-Alexander 20, Ferguson 14, Schroder 14, Adams 13, Muscala 11, Paul 10, Nader 2, Diallo 2, Bazley 1

Timberwolves 104 – Reid 20, Covington 18, Napier 16, Culver 14, Wiggins 10, Teague 6, Okogie 6, Dieng 5, Vonleh 4, Bates-Diop 3, Graham 2
