Antetokounmpo’s 30 Points Enough to Hold Off Warriors, 107-98

San Francisco, CA—After getting blown in San Antonio on Monday, the Milwaukee Bucks bounced back against the struggling Golden State Warriors in their only visit to Chase Center in San Francisco, 107-98. The NBA’s highest scoring team, the Bucks struggled on offense, making just one of their first 18 attempts from three-point range and 40% from the field overall. However, the Warriors, without their three best offensive players Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and DeAngelo Russell, couldn’t take advantage, shooting just 38% from the field. Despite the woeful shooting, the Warriors were able to make 15 three pointers to stay within range most of the game.
Alec Burks scored 19 points and Glenn Robinson III and Damion Lee added 15 points apiece for the Warriors, who have now lost six straight games. Willie Cauley-Stein added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is suffering from a sore back, still had 30 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Bucks. Khris Middleton added 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists as Milwaukee is now an NBA best 33-6.
In a bit a role reversal, the Bucks are now considered one of the top contenders, a position once firmly held by Golden State. “I think they built a great culture and great system around Giannis (Antetokounmpo). Mike’s (Budenholzer) done a helluva job installing an offense that is very difficult to guard and a defense that is top notch,” Head Coach Steve Kerr explained, “Anytime you have a top five offense and defense you are obviously a championship contender. Some teams can do one or the other, but when you have a two-way team like that you are tough to beat.”
