NBA Daily: Cavaliers Rally to Stun Spurs 117-109 in Overtime

PhilBoxing.com

Boracay Island, Philippines – The Cleveland Cavaliers rallied from 5 points down with 20 seconds left in regulation to beat the Spurs in overtime 117-109 on Thursday night (Friday morning, Philippine time) at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Kevin Love made 10 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter and overtime period. He also had 17 rebounds, dished out 2 assists, and hit four from deep, including the tying trey with 7.5 seconds left in fourth frame.

Collin Sexton added 28 markers, punctuated by a 7-for-8 shooting from the charity stripe. Filipino-American and San Antonio native Jordan Clarkson finished with 25 points on a 10-for-18 field goal shooting, including 4-for-11 from the rainbow territory, to go along with 4 boards, 3 dimes, and 1 steal off the bench.

With the victory, the Cavaliers snapped their 8-game losing skid and improved to 6 wins and 19 losses, now tied with the Atlanta Hawks with the second worst record in the Eastern Conference.

DeMar DeRozan led the Spurs with 21 points, but missed two crucial freethrows with 14 seconds left in regulation and the Spurs leading 103-100. Love then hit that game-tying three pointer a few seconds later. DeRozan then missed the potential game-winner to send the game into overtime.

The Cavaliers outscored the Spurs 14-to-6 in the extension period, including an 8-4 opening spurt, propelled by back-to-back threes by Love and Cedi Osman.

The Spurs, who dropped to a 9-15 win-loss card, will face the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night (Sunday morning, Philippine time) in Mexico City.
