NBA -- Bulls repel Grizzlies to win two in a row By Japheth Bandi PhilBoxing.com Fri, 06 Dec 2019 CHICAGO -- With a quarter of the regular season already in the books, the Chicago Bulls played host to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night and pulled out a 106-99 victory over at the United Center. The Bulls started with hot shooting and a lockdown defense that held Memphis to only 35 points in the first half, and at one point leading by 22. Chicago also took a commanding 50-35 advantage at halftime. At times when guys like Lavine or Markkanen were not hitting shots, Denzel Valentine and Thaddeus Young stepped up. Valentine had a stretch to close out the second quarter where he netted eight quick markers while Young had an identical stretch in the third quarter where he scored seven points. Jonas Valanciunas led Memphis' attack in the second half and dominated the paint by finishing with a game high 32 points and 13 rebounds. Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jae Crowder added 15 points and seven boards apiece while Grayson Allen pitched in 12 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. The Grizzlies cut down the Bulls lead all the way down to one with four and a half minutes remaining in the fourth period. But following a timeout, the Bulls closed the show. Zach Lavine led the Bulls with 25 points on 7-of 13- shooting. Wendell Carter Jr. added 16 points and 13 rebounds while Lauri Markkanen had 15 points and five boards. Tomas Satoransky filled that stat sheet with 13 points, six rebounds and eight assists. The Bulls improved to 8-14, while the Grizzlies fell to 6-15. "We play good basketball for 12, 15 minutes, then we play five minutes of poor basketball," Bulls head coach Jim Boylen lamented, suggesting that more work and consistency needs to be done. Chicago will look to continue its winning ways when they host the Golden State Warriors on Friday night (Saturday morning RP time) while Memphis will look to bounce back in Utah when they square off with the Jazz on Saturday night (Sunday morning RP time).
