NBA Daily: Davis' 40-20 Output Powers Lakers Past Grizzlies 120-91

PhilBoxing.com

Boracay Island, Philippines – Anthony Davis set a franchise record of 26 made freethrows on the way to a magnificent 40-point, 20-rebound, 0-turnover performance to reverse a 13-point Lakers deficit into a convincing 29-point drubbing of the Memphis Grizzlies 120-91 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, Tuesday night (Wednesday morning, Philippine time).

He became the fourth player in league history and first since Michael Jordan in 1987 to make at least 26 freethrows. Davis also joined Lakers greats Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabar, George Mikan and Shaquile O’Neal as the only ones to score at least 40 points and 20 rebounds for the franchise. He was also the quickest to do so – in just 31 minutes.

LeBron James added 23 points, 2 rebounds, and 8 assists for the Lakers, who improved to 3 wins with only one loss.

Rookie sensation Ja Morant led the Grizzlies with 16 markers, but found little support, as Memphis, who dropped to 1-3 in the win-loss column, shot poorly at 32.6% from the field and a measly 20.6% from deep.

Up next for the Lakers are the Dallas Mavericks to begin a 3-game road trip on Friday night (Saturday morning, Philippine time).

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies will host the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night (Sunday morning, Philippine time) in Memphis.

How they scored:

Lakers 120 – Davis 40, James 23, Cardwell-Pope 13, Bradley 12, McGee 10, Green 8, Cook 7, Daniels 5, Howard 2

Grizzlies 91 – Morant 16, Valanciunas 14, Allen 13, Clarke 10, Crowder 9, Brooks 8, Hill 8, Jackson 7, Jones 4, Anderson 2

AROUND THE LEAGUE:
