NBA Daily: Minnesota Survives Kyrie Irving's 50-Point Explosion for Brooklyn 127-126 in OT

PhilBoxing.com

Makati City, Philippines – All Star guard Kyrie Irving became the first player ever in NBA history to score at least 50 points in a team debut. He also had the chance to steal the victory, but missed on a potential game-winning shot as time expired.

This allowed the Minnesota Timberwolves to escape with a 127-126 overtime victory at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Wednesday night (Thursday morning Philippine time).

Irving shot 17-for-33 from the field, including 7-for-14 from deep, to go along with 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 1 block, while not committing a single turnover in 38 minutes of action.

Karl Anthony Towns stuffed the stats sheet for Minnesota, with an all-around performance of 36 markers, 14 boards, 3 dimes, 3 steals, and 3 swats to his name. Andrew Wiggins added 21 points, including the go-ahead basket with 1:19 remaining in the extension period.

Irving, along with injured star Kevin Durant, signed a free agent deal with Brooklyn last July.

The Nets will try to bounce back, as they host the New York Knicks Friday night (Saturday morning Philippine time).

Meanwhile, the Wolves will once again hit the road to face the Hornets in Charlotte on the same date.

How they scored:

Timberwolves – Towns 36, Wiggins 21, Covington 15, Teague 14, Okogie 11, Layman 10, Graham 9, Napier 5, Culver 4, Vonleh 2
