OMANS SLIPS PAST MALCO By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 21 Jan 2008 ALA Boy Jomanz Omanz proved he was ready for the big boys, but saw himself in a fight before slipping past a tough-as-they-come Pedro 'Cobrita' Malco during the Sinulog boxing event at the Gaisano Countrymall carpark last Sunday. The event was sponsored by joint inflammation KO supplement ARTHRO, Life Prolong Natural Supplements Inc (maker of male sexual performance booster PENREX and itch-stopping specialist FUNGISOL), and Yukka Halopainen. Omanz scored the lone knockdown in the fight with a big left in the second round after being tagged himself, but the game Malco recovered for a very explosive fight that had the more than 5,000 spectators asking for more after the fight. The 17-year-old Omanz was clearly the busier fighter, athough the veteran Malco tested the undefeated young fighter with powerful counters and crisp jabs that had the ALA fighter in dire straits in some rounds. After an exciting 10-round battle, Omanz kept his unblemished record via scores of 96-94, 96-93 and 98-91 over the game Malco. In the undercard, Idol winner Rolito Nengasca of Barili, Cebu looked brilliant with a six-round unanimous decision over Ubay, Bohol's Rufino Mante, thus keeping his unbeaten slate as a pro. Nengasca boxed and countered beautifully en route to a 60-54 (twice) and 59-55 victory. Hilario Canillas of Lutopan, Toledo City bucked the bigger Pedro Salondro to score a come-from-behind fourth-round technical knockout in their scheduled four-rounder. Leo Torres and Mark Jesson Taroja figured in a split draw, while Yao Ming Zaspa and Crismar Caballes fought to a majority draw.
