DONAIRE TAKES OUT YOUNG IN 6
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sun, 28 Apr 2019
Donaire connects with his lethal left cross.
Four-division world champion 'The Filipino Flash' Nonito Donaire Jnr knocked out cold late substitute Stephon Young Jnr with his patented left cross at the Cajun Dome in Lafayette, Louisiana Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) to advance into the bantamweight Finals of the World Boxing Super Series and be in a good position to raise the Muhammad Ali trophy and the $10 million dollar prize money that goes with it. Donaire also retained his WBA world bantamweight and WBC diamond bantamweight titles in the process.
Right from the getgo, the more experienced Donaire, 36, tried to walk down Young, 30, who was knocked down by Filipino power puncher Reymart Gaballo en route to a unanimous decision win on Mar. 23, 2018 in Florida. Young was on his back foot all the time as Donaire, using jabs and combinations with bad intention, looking to end the contest as early as possible. The agile Young however, from St. Louis, Missouri, connected with his own combinations in the 2nd round and looked confident in the 3rd round where he traded with Donaire but a good right to the head by Donaire momentarily staggered Young towards the end of the round.

Donaire puts the pressure on Young without let up.
Donaire continues to eye his prey as Young backs up where he connected with a left uppercut that bloodied Young's nose in the 4th round. In the 5th, Young, a lefty, occasionally connects with his left to the head of Donaire as The Filipino Flash was trying to finish Young off. Finally in the 6th round, Donaire connected with his lethal left cross that sent Young to the canvas momentarily unconscious.
Donaire will face the winner of the Emmanuel Rodriguez vs Naoya Inoue IBF world bantamweight championship which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland on May 18.
Donaire now improves to 40-5-0 with 26 KOs in a career now spanning 18 years while Young drops to 18-2-3, 7KOs.
