Jhon Gemino KO's Carlos Ornelas
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 03 Mar 2019

Jhon Gemino, an experienced journeyman from Lipa City?s Kambal Kamao Gym at Barangay Tambo, many times fights abroad on short notice. He is a favorite of foolish promoters who do their best to pick fighters like him thinking they can easily pad their fighter?s records.
With that, Gemino?s efforts produce mixed results.
But the gentleman known as ?The Disaster? in spite of his 19-11-1, 9KO record should never be taken lightly because he is unpredictable. He can easily spoil the plans of a future prospect.
Take for example when he fought the then rising star and undefeated Christian ?Chimpa? Gonzales of the Golden Boy Promotions at the old StubHub Center in Carson, California. Gonzales was a whole lot bigger than Gemino and was supposed to knock out the Filipino so as to pad his knockout ratio. But, Gemino almost took him to the cleaners, extending the fight to the full course of the fight but ultimately losing by a unanimous decision. The fact that he ended the fight on his feet was a moral victory for the fighter trained by Councilor Jun Gandeza.
Tonight at the Tijuana Events Center in downtown Tijuana, Gemino pulled a surprise that caught the Mexican fans with their mouths agape. Jhon Gemino caught the rising Mexican prospect, Carlos Ornelas (23-2-0,12 KO) with a great punch in round 2 and reportedly broke his nose.
Although Ornelas gave Gemino something to think about as they fought, many times seemingly putting the Filipino in jeopardy, the Batangas spitfire took everything thrown to him, including the kitchen sink and stood his ground.
In round seven, Gemino out of nowhere landed a left hook and dropped Ornelas ending the fight 42 seconds of the round.
It was a great win for Gemino. But for the Mexican slugger, the defeat will force him back to the drawing board, so to speak if he intends to follow his dreams of winning at least a regional title by the end of the year.
