TAPALES STOPS PARRA IN 5 (PHOTOS)

Former world champion Marlon 'The Nightmare' Tapales of the Philippines continues his way back to world title contention when he stopped former world title challenger Fernando Vargas Parra in the 5th round of their 10-round scheduled featherweight bout on the undercard of the Leo Santa Cruz vs Rafael Rivera championship bout at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles Saturday night (Sunday in Manila).
Scheduled last in the 12-fight stacked card, the Tapales-Parra fight started almost at midnight and Philboxing only got sketchy details from ringside as of press time with the end result officially registered at Boxrec as RTD, meaning Parra's corner refused to continue to fight.
Tapales's manager Rex 'Wakee' Salud said Marlon is ready to fight for another world championship whether in the featherweight or junior featherweight division. ?There are a lot of good champions in the featherweight but I know Marlon is up to task and he can beat anybody out there,? Salud told Philboxing.
?However he can also fight at junior feather if any champion in that division wants to fight him. It's up to the PBC [Premier Boxing Champions] and MP Promotions who now co-promotes Marlon to fight a suitable opponent for him in his next fight,? Salud said.

Tapales (32-2-0, 15KOs) racked up 11 straight wins since losing to Mexican David Sanchez in 2013 capturing the WBO bantamweight title in the process in July, 2016. Tapales however failed to defend the title when loses it on the weighing scale against Shohei Omori in Japan on April, 2017.
