'WE ARE NOT AFRAID OF FILIPINOS, ONLY MANNY PACQUIAO'
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sat, 15 Dec 2007
GUADALAJARA -- During tonight's TV appearance of Archie Solis and Bert Batawang at TV Azteca, Mexico's biggest television network, Batawang's manager Samson Gello-ani articulated to the TV host Batawang's purpose in coming to Guadalajara.
Gello-ani said that "first, Batawang wanted to continue the battle between Filipinos and Mexicans to which the Filipinos had so far having the upperhand; second, Batawang wanted to take revenge of compatriot Rodel Mayol's loss to Solis, and third, Batawang wanted to duplicate the feat accomplished by former Filipino world champion Luisito Espinosa who beat Alejandro 'Cobrita' Gonzales in his own hometown in 1996."
The TV host, upon hearing this, smiled and said in front of the TV audience, "Ha ha, we are not afraid of Filipinos, only Manny Pacquiao," to which the studio audience had a big laugh.
Pacquiao has now become a legendary-like figure in Mexico after he sent to retirement Mexican legends Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera. On March 15 next year, Pacquiao will face the last Mexican standing in the super featherweight division, Juan Manuel Marquez.
Solis will defend his IBF light flyweight title against Batawang tomorrow at the Auditorio Benito Juarez here.
