FARMER TOPS FONSECA TO REMAIN CHAMP
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 16 Dec 2018

New York - In the co-main event of Saul Alvarez and Michael Fielding at The Mecca of Boxing, Tevin Farmer (27-4-1, 6 KOs) successfully defended his International Boxing Federation Super Featherweight title against feisty Francisco Fonseca (22-1-1, 16 KOs) via Unanimous Decision with identical scores of 117-111 in all three judges at ringside.
The champ from Philadelphia and the challenger from Costa Rica figured in some gutsy exchanges but Farmer would always come on top of these exchanges. A scoring hit from Fonseca will be negated by two or more effective punches by the reigning belt holder.
Farmer who is a very effective body puncher would always look to score in his opponent?s torso during his fast combos which would cause Fonseca to slow down and not follow up on his punches.
This is Farmer?s second defense of his title- all on the road- since he won the vacant strap against Billy Dib in Australia.
In his post fight interview, he announced his intentions to defend his title in his hometown of Philadelphia.
?I?ve been on the road this whole year. I wanted to just let everybody know that I?ll be home in Philadelphia in March, I?m bringing everything back home baby.?
He also answered questions about a future unification fight with WBA champ, Gervonta Davis who happened to stop a common opponent in Fonseca inside 8 rounds last year.
?Is that the fight that I want? We?ve moved past him. Does he want to fight me? Like I said, we active, we getting paid. It?s time for him to fight and stay active and then he can come see me.?
The talented Davis has been out of the ring for eight months. His last fight was last April when he successfully defended his title. Davis has a future date with Abner Mares Whig scheduled for February of 2019.
