Pacquiao has to quiet 'Li'l Bro' Broner first before rematch with Floyd

PhilBoxing.com

New York - Last September, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. broke headlines again when they met in Japan.

The two icons of the sport of boxing made noise when they both challenged each other to a rematch of their multi-million Fight of the Century held in 2015.

This drew mix reactions from fans and the media, majority of which had a negative view of that mega event more than three years ago.

Fast forward to today and Mayweather Jr. has a fight of sorts with a Japanese MMA slash kick boxer on New Year?s Eve in Tokyo and Pacquiao is in a press conference in New York City where he will be fighting a flashy fighter from Ohio who was once touted as Floyd?s prot?g?e - his ?li'l bro? - Adrien Broner.

The 29 year old Broner, ten years Pacquiao?s junior, is a flamboyant, trash talking, expletive-laden fighter who, like the Filipino fighter - is also a multi division champ. He has a record of 33 wins, 24 by knockouts, 3 defeats and a draw and he held titles in four different weight divisions.
Pacquiao, with 60 wins and 39 KOs against 7 defeats and 2 draws, holds the record of eight.

Broner has an on and off relationship with Mayweather Jr. that has been played out both in the media and on social media. Once considered as the heir apparent to the throne, Broner became critical of Mayweather Jr. and the boxer?s promotional company in 2016 of which Mayweather did not take kindly of. A war of words ensued between the two leading to Broner?s bout with Ashley Theophane - a fighter in Mayweather?s stable.

Broner did not certainly follow the footsteps of his undefeated ?big bro? but he presents a similar fighting style like Mayweather Jr. He is quick, fast and is a fan of Mayweather?s shoulder roll defense.

This maybe one of the reasons why Pacquiao and his team picked him, Broner can well serve as an appetizer for that rematch with Mayweather Jr.

?About Floyd, if he comes out of his retirement, let?s see and we?ll see after this fight but we cannot underestimate Adrian Broner," said Pacquiao in the presser.

That drew angry remarks from Broner who took offense to being used as a stepping stone to another multi-million fight by the two.

?(Expletive) Floyd. No disrespect but he ain?t fighting Floyd, he?s fighting me. I?m gonna beat your (expletive) ass, you worry about Floyd, he?s already beat you brother.?

Unable to control his laughter when listening to Broner?s antics on stage, Pacquiao turned away from the American during their first face-off and when Broner made his remarks on stage.

Broner like his ?big bro? is colorful and inflammatory- a contrast to the reserved Pacquiao who admits that he does not like trash talking prior to his fights.

?I?m a kind of person who doesn?t want to trash talk just to fight. All I know is to fight in the ring, give excitement and entertain people. That?s my job,? said Pacquiao

But if Pacquiao wants another piece of Mayweather, he has to silence his former prot?g?e first.
