BERNALDEZ AND MACKENZIE MAKE WEIGHT FOR WBO ASIA PACIFIC TITLE FIGHT IN AUSTRALIA By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Thu, 04 Oct 2018 Mark ?Machete? Bernaldez will face his toughest opponent after being away from the ring for two years and eight months when he takes on Kye MacKenzie of Australia this Friday for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific lightweight title. The 26 year old Bernaldez (17-1,12KO?s) now fights out of the Sanman Gym of Gen. Santos City. He was a fixture of ALA Promotions? fight cards but he suffered his lone career loss in Japan last August 5,2015 by 7th round TKO at the hands of Tsuyoshi Tameda. Bernaldez made a comeback under Sanman Promotions last April and won two straight fights by the short route against JP Macadumpis and Ryan Bongcawil. MacKenzie (19-1,16KO?s), also 26 years old, won the interim version of the title last year by unanimous decision against Nort Beauchamp of New Zealand. In 2015, MacKenzie had his only career loss in an IBO world title fight when he lost to another Filipino Jack Asis by TKO in the eighth round. In 2016, he won the vacant Australian super lightweight title by 4TH round TKO against Dylan Emery. MacKenzie?s last fight was in January and he stopped Argentine Emiliano Martin Garcia in four rounds. During the official weigh-in held today, MacKenzie was at 134 lbs while Bernaldez was a pound lighter. Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude Manangquil informed philboxing of the weights.
