MAYOL FIGHT AMONG 'MOST DIFFICULT TO SCORE' WORLD TITLE FIGHTS IN 2007

PhilBoxing.com

The World Boxing Council (WBC) has included the foiled attempt of Filipino Rodel Mayol to capture the IBF lightflyweight title against Ulises Solis in Rosemont, Illinois in August 4 this year as among the "12 most difficult to score" world championship fights, so far, in 2007.

This was disclosed during the WBC Ring Official Certification Seminar supervised by Hubert Minn, WBC ring officials chairman, in the just concluded 45th WBC convention in Manila Hotel.
Minn prepared 12 sets of world title fights to be scored by those who attended the seminar and showed video clips of the fights as guide.

The Mayol-Solis shootout was listed in Round 11. Solis scored a stunning come-from-behind TKO in the 8th round over the promising Filipino ribcracker.

Here are the 12 world title fights according to their assigned arounds:

Round 1 -- Jean-Marc Mormeck vs O'Neal Bell WBC/WBA cruiserweight fight(March 17 in France)
Round 2 -- Juan Manuel Marquez vs Marco Antonio Barrera
Round 3 -- Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Oscar dela Hoya
Round 4 -- David Diaz vs Erik Morales (Round 2)
Round 5 -- Gamaliel Diaz vs Elio Rojas
Round 6 -- Miguel Angel Garcia vs Truble Steve
Round 7 -- Israel Vasquez vs Rafael Marquez
Round 8 -- Kelly Pavlik vs Jermain Taylor
Round 9 -- Adrian Diaconu vs Rico Hoye
Round 10 -- David Diaz vs Erik Morales (Round 11)
Round 11 -- Ulises Solis vs Rodel Mayol
Round 12 -- Hozumi Hasegawa vs Simpiwe Vetyeka

During the seminar, Minn asked participants to reveal their score cards in every round and justify them. He also asked them to respect the scores given by each of them in every round even as he admitted that the fights "were really difficult to score because they were very closed."
