PACQUIAO DIARIES: Friday the 13th with PacMan By Balt Ducay Chavez PhilBoxing.com Sun, 15 Jul 2018 KUALA LUMPUR. When I told my dad Vicente that I am coming down to join Team Pacman for a run around Kuala Lumpur?s first large scale recreational park at the Lake Gardens at 7 AM on Friday, he cautioned me in jest, ?It?s Friday the 13th. Try not to die.?Well, I almost did. Several times, in fact. I almost died when I had my first photo-op selfie The PacMan when he came out of the Le Meredien Hotel straight to his carpool. His smile was so bright it could have lit thePetronas Towers. I almost died with excitement as I shared a van with ABS-CBN scribe Dyan Castillejo, Rep. Toby of Navotas, Jayke Joson along with other MP personnel heading towards the park. The laughter inside the was so infectious it could paint the whole of Malaysia red. I almost died when I tried to keep up with the pace of Team Pacman as it looped around the park. It was the hardest 30-meter dash of my life. I somehow managed to keep pace when the good senator walked around to cool himself down. Eager locals and OFW fans cheered a resounding and heartfelt ?Dugong Pinoy! Fight fight fight!? Pacman's speed was amazing as he shadowboxed. I thought, yes, the Old Pacquiao is back. I almost died when I shared an elevator ride with Pacman after the run. The feeling was inexplicable and exhilarating at the same time. I could feel my heart pumping out my chest when I personally thanked the good senator how grateful I was to interview him on the phone call last Monday. He was gracious enough to shake my hands, sending shivers down my spine. I almost died witnessing the turn-over of the coveted IBF ring from IBF president Daryl Peoples to Filipino world champion Jerwin Ancajas for defending his title three times in 2017. The ring was so beautiful, leaving me in awe. I almost died when I personally met Lucas Matthysse and Jorge Diaz after their TV-Fighters? meeting. His tattoos were impressive, pieces of art that can be mistaken for a thug's and belies his gentle persona. Both gents were gracious enough to accommodate a photo-op, boosting my selfie game enough to rival Bong Go's. I almost died when I witnessed an errant Pacquiao dislodge trainer Buboy Fernandez?s tooth during their final training session. I almost died when I chanced upon the very beautiful Jinkee Pacquiao, wife of the fighting senator, at the Club Lounge of the Le Meredien. Lastly, I almost died when I realized that all in a day?s setting, I was able to witness glamour and greatness. I could not ask more. It was indeed a happy Friday the 13th for me. Thank the heavens, I did not die. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Balt Ducay Chavez. |
