'Undefeated'- History in the Making By Bill Velasco PhilBoxing.com Thu, 15 Nov 2007 LAS VEGAS ? It is rare that boxers of this calibre survive this long without belmishes on their records. But all good things must come to an end. After staking his unblemished record and WBC light middleweight title against Oscar dela Hoya last May, "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather now faces a fighter with a similarly pristine record in Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton in "Undefeated" At the MGM Grand Garden Arena on December 8. Only one of them will escape still undefeated. "Everyone is already talking about it and breaking it down, trying to figure out who has the edge," Oscar de la Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions, says. "It's a great clash of styles between Mayweather and Hatton and I think that translates into a memorable fight that will go down in history as one of the great ones." Leonard Ellerbe of co-promoter Mayweather Promotions agreed. "We're very excited to host our first fight at MGM Grand. This will definitely be a great battle for the fans." Mayweather (38-0 with 24 KOs), hinted that he has the advantage, considering he is fighting in the US, and is intimately familiarity with the venue, "The MGM Grand is like a second home to me and I'm going to make my fifth appearance here my most spectacular and memorable," Mayweather affirmed. "I love Vegas, and I'm gonna show Ricky Hatton that he can't come into my house and try to take what's mine." Since 1997, Hatton has amassed a 43-win record with no losses and 31 knockouts on his way to the world junior welterweight title. This year alone, the native of Manchester, England won the IBF junior welterweight title via decision over Juan Urango in January, then knocked out Jose Luis Castillo in four rounds last June. Though both fights were also held in Las Vegas, Hatton feels that it is this fight that will confirm his status as a great champion to the large US audience. "To fight Floyd Mayweather in that famous ring will push me even harder to live up to such a legacy." "Undefeated" is expected to join the impressive list of great word title fights that have been held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Among them are world championship fights between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson; Oscar De La Hoya vs. Bernard Hopkins; and George Foreman vs.Michael Moorer.
