YAFAI DOWNS CARMONA THREE TIMES AS BRIT WBA CHAMPION DISHED OUT OLD-FASHIONED BEATDOWN AGAINST TOUGH MEXICAN
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sun, 27 May 2018
FRESNO, CA ? WBA world super flyweight champion Khalid Yafai of the UK dished out an old-fashioned beatdown over the game and never say die Mexican warrior David Carmona until the brave Mexican could no longer take it. Yafai showed quickness and power to put Carmona to the canvas in the 1st, 4th and 5th rounds and inflicted more punishment in rounds sixth and seventh rounds before Carmona's corner called it quits before the 8th round bell rings.
Yafai also was the recipient of some solid shots from Carmona but showed his own toughness to weather whatever the Mexican threw at him. Yafai was deducted a point by Referee Raul Caiz Sr in the fifth round after the British forcibly pushed down the Mexican to the canvas.
Yafai retained his title although Camona had no chance of winning it after coming overweight by 3.6 lbs during Friday's weighin.
Yafai, who wishes to fight the other champions in the division including Jerwin Ancajas who will defend his title against compatriot Jonas Sultan in the evening's main event, now improves his undefeated record to 24 wins with 15 stoppages while Carmona went down to 21 wins, 5 losses and 5 draws.
