GGG STOPS MARTIROSYAN IN 2
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 06 May 2018

CARSON, CA -- Gennady Golovkin as a massive favorite at tonight?s fight against Vanes Martirosyan proved once more that boxing odd-makers though not perfect still knows their stuff very well.
They put Golovkin as -3000 against Martirosyan who was placed at +1000 and they were spot on!
Golovkin stopped Martirosyan at round at 1:53 in round 2 becoming the first person to ever knockout the sturdy former US Olympian.
Golovkin had no choice but to win impressively because at his age, people are starting to think that he has lost a bit of his power, a natural phenomenon when boxers start hitting their late 30?s. Although he never admitted that he wanted the fight to end in a KO, it appears that as the first bell rung, that?s all He wanted to do.
Martirosyan for his part deserves a lot of credit. He was the smaller between the two and had to go up 6 pounds to get to Golovkin?s weight class. It appears that adding the extra pounds did not bother Martirosyan too much but it was clear that his power was one division south of the agreed upon weight tonight.
The Golovkin-Martirosyan was certainly not in the same class as a Golovkin-Canelo fight. But it was indeed a good substitute. The crowd at the StubHub certainly proved that. They came in droves and they have a great time.
