Ancajas vs Sultan to move from Las Vegas to Fresno, California By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Thu, 26 Apr 2018  The historic All-Filipino scuffle between International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight champ Jerwin Ancajas (29-1-1, 20 KOs) and number one challenger Jonas Sultan (14-3, 9 KOs) has been moved yet again to another city and state. Originally reported to be a main event card of Top Rank Boxing in Las Vegas, Nevada for May 26, the championship showdown between the two Pinoy warriors is now looking at ?The Golden State? as it?s next and hopefully final venue. Joven Jimenez, coach and manager of Ancajas told Philboxing that the organizers are looking to move the bout to California with Los Angeles as a leading site. ?Mas gusto nila na madami makapanood ng laban.? (They want a lot of people to watch the fight.) Filipinos make up one if not are the largest Asian minority group in California and the event organizers are looking to attract this particular demographic. This is not the first time this bout?s venue was changed. The mandatory contest between Ancajas versus Sultan was rumored and reported to be an undercard for Vasyl Lomachenko and Jorge Linares in New York City next month, a main event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this week and then in Sin City prior to this recent development. Ancajas? advisor Sean Gibbons also verified the change of venue and told Philboxing that the city of Fresno is the likely new site for the fight and not Los Angeles. He mentioned that no specific venue has been chosen so far and that the date remains the same. Fresno is about a 3 hour drive from downtown San Francisco and a 2 and a half hour drive from the state capital of Sacramento. Top Rank?s last event in Fresno was in November of last year at the Save Mart Center of Fresno State with junior welterweights Jose Ramirez and Mike Reed as headliners. Jimenez said that Team Ancajas will depart for the US on May 15 while Sultan is looking to leave Cebu City on the first week of May as per the boxer himself.
