PACQUIAO, DONAIRE TO RECEIVE AWARDS AT WBHOF By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sun, 14 Oct 2007 Two Filipino fighters will lead the major awardees tonight as superstar Manny Pacquiao and dual world champion Nonito Donaire Jr have been awarded by the World Boxing Hall of Fame for their respective achievements this year. Pacquiao will receive the coveted ?Fighter of the Year Award? while Donaire will get the "Most Outstanding Boxer for 2007" plum.

"The award is in recognition of the many accomplishments of Pacquiao in the months past, including wins over Mexican legends and future Hall Fame awardees, Eric Morales and Marco Antonio Barerra," said a report by Philboxing.com's Ed De la Vega. Th award will be presented tonight in a lavish ceremony at the Double Tree Hotel along Vinyard Avenue in Ontario California. Reception starts at 5:30 PM followed by a formal dinner. The presentation of the awards follows immediately. Meanwhile, Nonito Donaire Sr, who trains his world champion son, said in an interview yesterday that he will accompany his son next week when they fly to the Philippines to train at the world-famous ALA Boxing Gym for Donaire's December 1 defense against Luis Maldonado in Connecticut. "We are now very excited to fly to the Philippines to train at the ALA Gym. We are looking forward to meeting our countrymen," said the elder Donaire.
