AFTER BARRERA BOUT, PACQUIAO GOES TO SCHOOL
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Fri, 12 Oct 2007
From the boxing ring straight to the classroom.
Reigning pound-for-pound topnotcher Manny Pacquiao, fresh from his dominating performance in his rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera last Sunday at the Mandalay Bay, is scheduled to report to the classroom where he plans to pursue his studies at the Notre Dame University in Cotabato City.
Rex 'Wakee' Salud, Pacquiao's closest business associate, revealed in an interview yesterday that the power-punching southpaw, considered by many experts as the best fighter on the planet pound-for-pound, will start reporting to school on October 17 for his business course.
Salud, who owns the RWS Gym that is credited for Pacquiao's sterling training for the Barrera rematch, said that the boxing icon is set to arrive in Cebu on October 14 to play basketball and for some business matters, and then fly to General Santos City on October 16.
"Mo eskwela sya pag ka October 17. Mao na iya schedule. Busy kaayo tawhana," (He's going to school on October 17. That's his schedule. That man is so busy) said Salud in an interview yesterday.
Meanwhile, in an interview with the Inquirer, Pacquiao has indicated that he would love to trade leathers with WBA superfeatherweight champion Edwin Valero, the Japan-based Venezuelan who has been downplaying his repeat performance over Barrera.
Valero has been quoted by media as saying that Pacquiao did not look impressive in his fight, and was all speed with no power.
Also in Pacquiao's radar is WBC lightweight king David Diaz as well as the winner of the unification duel between WBC champ Juan Diaz and IBF champ Julio Diaz.
"Any Diaz would be fine," Pacquiao was quoted as saying.
