Chris Avalos Bounces Back from the Magsayo Debacle
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Wed, 19 Jul 2017

Chris ?The Hitman? Avalos (27-5-0, 20 KO) of Lancaster, California bounces back from his terrible loss to Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo of the famed ALA Gym of Cebu with a 5th round TKO win against Miguel Flores (21-2-0, 9KO) of Houston, Texas.
Avalos travelled to Cebu City to tangle with Magsayo for the vacant WBO International Featherweight title but was soundly defeated by the rising star of the ALA Gym.
Tonight at the Rapides Coliseum at Alexandria, Louisiana, Avalos met Flores on top of the ring and almost met the same fate he had against Magsayo. Avalos was dropped by a series of shots to the body and the head in round three and barely survived the round.
In round four, as Avalos and Flores exchanged shots at close quarters, they clashed heads and a cut opened on the left eyelid of Flores. Unfortunately, the referee who to us appeared slow-footed, failed to see the incident and ruled the cut as a result of a punch.
Replay however showed the exact time that the clash occurred and the cut that followed.
The referee asked the ringside doc to check it and the doc after a cursory check allowed the fight to continue. However, the fight was ultimately stopped after round 5.
Avalos therefore was declared the winner and the fight went on record as RTD.
Had the referee correctly ruled regarding the cut, Flores would have been declared the winner as he was ahead on the score cards at the time of the stoppage.
The Avalois-Flores fight which was promoted by Premier Boxing Champions, was seen live on FS1.
Avalos was first introduced to Filipino boxing fans when he fought and beat Drian Francisco of Mindoro at the Texas Station in Las Vegas, NV. Francisco fought well but completely run out of gas and was soundly defeated by a wide unanimous decision.
