Delgado Defeats Gabejan in Binangonan Boxing By Salvador Lopez PhilBoxing.com Mon, 01 Oct 2007 RP #4 super-bantamweight contender Ariel Delgado moved a step closer to challenging for the RP crown when he defeated RP #4 Edgar Gabejan in their main event duel in the ?Bakbakan sa Binangonan II? held last night at the Ynares Plaza, Binangonan, Rizal. The fight was competitive throughout but Delgado?s un-rushing style prevented Gabejan from properly establishing his range, at least in the first half of the fight, not getting enough leverage with his punches so as to hurt Delgado. On the other hand, Delgado was busy in the entire fight and was successful in connecting with hooks, hardly damaging though as they were just chopping shots where the knuckles were not landing solidly. Gabejan tried to fight back in the 9th round and was aggressively pursuing Delgado?s body but then it was a way too late to catch up as Delgado had already established a big lead in the judges? scorecards, including a point deduction earlier slapped on Gabejan for Delgado?s cut due to accidental head-butt. The scores of the bout were: 95-93, 96-94, and 97-90 all for Delgado. Delgado and Gabejan awaiting decision. Olisa awaiting official announcement of victory. Photos courtesy of Tony Venezuela. In the co-main event, RP #8 superfyweight contender Richard Olisa, fresh from his recent smashing 2nd round TKO victory over world ranked and previously undefeated David Lookmahanak of Thailand, made short work of Jongjong Gagante coming up with a TKO win when the latter failed to beat the count after being decked by a big right cross midway in the 2nd round. The other co-main event involving a super-flyweight bout between Dante Contiga and Roy Doliguez ended in a technical draw due when the cut above Doliguez? right eye caused earlier by an accidental head-butt rendered him unable to continue. The stoppage occurred in the 4th round, hence, the draw result. In another bout, Ronnie Canete was having a good start against Jun Eraham in their flyweight match-up connecting with strong hooks to the head and body of the latter but faded as the rounds went on. A strong second-half comeback plus a point deduction slapped on Canete on two occasions for deliberately spitting out his mouthpiece helped Eraham win a close majority decision with scores of 75-75, 77-73, and 75-74. Arvin Diale scored a first round knockdown against the still rusty Albert Alcoy, who was fighting for the first time after a year lay-off, but failed to follow it up and was pushed to the distance. The fight which was held at the flyweight limit ended in a split draw. The rest of the bouts ended as follows: Ronald Pontillas by a UD victory over Kevin dela Cruz (58-56, 60-56, 59-55) in a super- bantamweight fight; Marvin Sonsona scoring a 4th round TKO over Noel Guliman in their flyweight bout; Jose Ocampo winning over Lloyd Francisco via a 1st round TKO in their featherweight bout; Dan Nazareno winning a UD over Glen Mondol in their lightweight bout; and Emilio Ervas winning over Jeffrey Torio via a UD in a super-bantamweight bout.
