ANOTHER HAPLESS FILIPINO GETS MAULED IN A SCANDALOUS PABA TITLE MISMATCH

PhilBoxing.com

Another hapless Filipino, Jovill Marayan gets mauled in a scandalous Pan Asia Boxing Association 126 pound title fight in Sisaket, Thailand, losing by a 4th round knockout to unbeaten Thai champion Thong Sithluangphophun.

Incredibly, Marayan?s nickname is Pancho Villa who was one of the most colorful Filipino world champions and a Hall of Fame inductee.

It was the eighth title defense of the 23 year old Thai champion who, according to James Goyder of Boxing Scene ?was barely troubled by Jovill Marayan who he stopped right at the start of the fourth round.?

Boxing Scene reported that Marayan ?came into the fight with an uninspiring recent record and seemed incapable of avoiding his opponent's jab. At the end of the opening round Thong followed up with a straight right hand to the body from close quarters which left the Filipino in visible discomfort.?

In the second stanza Marayan's guard was wide open and ?he ate numerous jabs, although he did manage to land a hard right hook at the end of the round which briefly unbalanced Thong. The third round saw the Thai scoring with one-two combinations to the body and head, with the odd left uppercut thrown in for good measure.?

Boxing Scene reported that ?towards the end of the round they found themselves trading on the inside and Marayan was able to land a few body shots of his own although Thong was clearly getting the better of the exchanges. At the start of the fourth they met in the middle of the ring and two uppercuts on the inside put the Filipino on his back.?

Marayan couldn't beat the count and the referee waved off the fight meaning that the Filipino has now lost 10 of his last 11 fights. He drops to 9-22-3 while Thong improves to 19-0 and retains the PABA 126 lbs title he won in 2014.

This scandalous state of affairs in the Games and Amusements Board which is under the Office of the President speaks poorly of Rody Duterte?s concern for a sport in which Filipinos have earned a reputation for being among the best in the world.

The continuing incompetence and callous attitude of GAB chairman Ramon ?Monju? Guanzon and boxing division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz is an affront to Filipino boxing fans.
